Pets in Costumes

SPCA is concerned about the practice of dressing pets up in novelty costumes.

In some circumstances, functional clothing may offer a welfare benefit to companion animals. For example, some animals may benefit from the use of clothing for warmth and waterproofing, sun protection, or to protect surgical sites.

SPCA opposes the use of novelty costumes or clothing that restrict an animal’s ability to move or communicate, causes physical discomfort or stress, obscures vision or poses a risk of overheating. Novelty bandanas or collars offer a welfare friendly alternative.
