Dog Volunteer Assistant
Christchurch Centre
We are looking for volunteers to help with the daily work of caring for our dogs and puppies. This role requires a good level of fitness and confidence in handling large dogs.
The work we ask our canine volunteers to do is quite strenuous and you must be willing to walk to dogs in all weathers.
Duties of this role include
- Cleaning animal runs
- Taking dogs for walks
- Feeding animals per feeding directions
- Identifying animals displaying signs of illness
- Follow Health and Safety requirements
Available shifts
- Monday to Sunday, 8 am to 12pm
Qualifications and Education Requirements
No formal qualification required but you will need to be at least 18 years of age. Previous animal experience desirable.
Preferred skills
Successful candidate must be able to follow instructions and all Health and Safety requirements. They should be enthusiastic, hardworking, be able to work well in a team and have a genuine love of animals. We need volunteers that are prepared to commit to the minimum requirement of one shift per week for 6 months, and can understand written and spoken English.
Please note that there will be an induction evening to attend once you have submitted your application form, prior to being accepted in to our programme.

A few things to note:
- You must be at least 15 to volunteer in our Op Shops.
- You must be at least 16 to volunteer at our Centres. If you are younger, please check out our sections on 'Volunteering for Kids', 'Volunteering from Home' or talk to your family about fostering opportunities.
- You may need to provide an up to date Ministry of Justice check during this process, and we'll ask about any medical conditions so we can ensure your safety while volunteering.
