SPCA’s desexing Outreach Vouchers have been making waves across high-need communities, allowing other organisations including Kāinga Ora and Vetora Galatea vet clinic to distribute these to struggling pet owners on behalf of SPCA.

The progress in tackling the overpopulation of companion animals through desexing continues, with certain rescue groups now partnering with SPCA through Outreach Vouchers.

“Coast to Coast Cat Rescue (CCCR) are the very first cat rescue group to be involved with these vouchers, and we’re thrilled to have them on board to help pet owners in Whangārei,” says Rebecca Dobson, SPCA National Desexing Programme Manager.

“CCCR have a significant desexing history with SPCA. They have helped to facilitate thousands of desexing surgeries in the Far North – last year alone they assisted with desexing over 1,800 cats and dogs,” says Ms Dobson.

“Pet owners in Whangārei in need of desexing asisstance should reach out to CCCR directly.”

CCCR are also involved with existing desexing initiatives with TopVets in Kaitaia, and Bay of Islands Vet Clinic for residents in the Bay of Islands region.

Sam Stewart from CCCR have said the team are excited to be a part of this desexing collaboration.

“We have seen firsthand the difference extensive desexing has made in the Far North. Numbers of kittens coming into care have dropped over the last two seasons since we began our desexing program. Teamwork really does make a difference in getting the job done,” says Sam.

The Dog Rescue Project is the other rescue group to come on board with the Outreach Vouchers this week.

“The Dog Rescue Project is another rescue that has been hugely supportive of our work at SPCA,” says Ms Dobson. “They bring deep community trust and a wealth of experience in supporting owners to do right by their dogs. Partnering with them allows us to reach more at-risk animals and provide practical, timely support where it’s needed most.”

The Outreach Vouchers to be distributed by The Dog Rescue Project in Auckland will complement the current desexing programme that is running with Auckland Council.

“We are excited to work alongside SPCA with this vital work, based on years of a trusted relationship working together,” says Amanda Fraiser-Jones from the Dog Rescue Project. “Desexing is where we need to put more effort, and this project encompasses this.”

Pet owners in Auckland who are struggling financially and need help with desexing their pets can apply online through The Dog Rescue Project.
