SPCA launches cheeky new ‘Have a Dog Instead’ adoption campaign
The new campaign uses humour to encourage people to consider adopting – and that a new furry friend might be just what their life is missing.
This spring, SPCA is inviting New Zealanders to rethink what brings them happiness, purpose and connection in life.
Through its new ‘Have a Dog Instead’ campaign, SPCA is encouraging people to consider dog adoption as a simple and rewarding way to find companionship, joy and unconditional love, while shining a spotlight on the dogs waiting for homes around New Zealand.
“It’s a little different to any of our previous adoption campaigns,” says Todd Westwood, SPCA Chief Executive Officer.
“All of us have had moments where we have questioned our life choices – be it the expensive toy that didn’t make us as happy as we thought; that fitness trend that was more pain than gain; or that situation when the kids were just a little too much. We hope people can relate and will get the humour.”
“If a little bit of cheekiness helps us draw attention to all the wonderful dogs in our care and help us reach their forever families, then we have achieved our goal.”
As kitten season starts to get underway, SPCA Centres will begin to see more litters coming into their care.
“We need our teams to be ready to manage the influx of animals that tend to arrive over spring and summer, and we need to create additional capacity,” Mr Westwood says.
The campaign has been brought to life with the help of a number of generous partners, including the agency, media partners and photographer who kindly supported the campaign through their expertise, resources and commitment to helping animals find loving homes.
“We are very grateful for the support we have received. Every person who helps us share these dogs' stories gives them a better chance of finding the loving home they deserve, and that is what this campaign is all about.”
