Canine volunteer
Thames Centre
We need people to help us care for our canines!
This role requires a good level of fitness as the work we ask our canine volunteers to do can be quite strenuous. You will need to be confident with handling large dogs and you must be willing to walk dogs in any type of weather, rain or shine!
This roles tasks include:
- Cleaning dog pens
- Socialising dogs and puppies
- Assisting our canine attendants with their daily tasks
- Walking dogs
We need volunteers who:
- Are confident with handling dogs or have a strong desire to learn
- Are hardworking, reliable and committed
You must be able to commit to at least one regular two-hour shift per week for a period of at least two months. Our shifts are in the mornings:
Weekday option (Mon-Fri): Shift start times are 8am to 10am

Thanks for your interest in volunteering with SPCA. Volunteers are a huge part of our team—we couldn’t do what we do without you!
To get started, just fill out the form below. If you need help, please call the team at your local SPCA Centre or op shop.
A few things to note:
- You must be at least 15 to volunteer in our Op Shops.
- You must be at least 16 to volunteer at our Centres. If you are younger, please check out our sections on 'Volunteering for Kids', 'Volunteering from Home' or talk to your family about fostering opportunities.
- You may need to provide an up to date Ministry of Justice check during this process, and we'll ask about any medical conditions so we can ensure your safety while volunteering.
